We identified priority needs to control cancer care in Nothern Province, Sri Lanka, and formed working groups.

Health Education Coordinator

JMFOA- Canada appointed a Cancer Health education coordinator through CANE.

This Coordinator will work in the field related to "Cancer Prevention in Northern Province" through Regional Authorities, MOH, and with existing educations units in Northern Province. 

Cancer Awareness Training for Health Workers

Cancer Awareness & Educators Training Program:

JMFOA-Canada inaugurated the Community Cancer Educators Training program and its stakeholders at Nursing Training School, Jaffna, on February 19, 2022. This six months Training program is funded by JMFOA- Canada (JMFOA Foundation) and implemented by CANE ( Cancer Aid North & East), The program will expand to all five districts in Northern Province. 

Cancer awareness program Killinochchi - RDHS

July 2022 RDHS conducted this program under the leadership of Onco Surgeon Dr.Thanendran to the Nurses and Public Health in that health region.

Workshops for dental surgeons in the Northern Province

These workshops have equipped dental surgeons to actively participate in district-wise cancer awareness and screening programs. They will serve as local champions in their respective areas, ensuring effective outreach to target groups for oral cancer awareness.

Palliative Care 

Home-based palliative care training and the care were implemented by IMHO with the partnership of CANE & Two Worlds in Northern province .
We are currently working with Eastern stakeholders to implement a same project soon.
